Repent
"Rid yourselves of all the offenses you have committed, and get a new heart and a new spirit."
Ezekiel 18:31
Dear Journey Family…
Repentance is often talked about when someone makes an "altar call" or when the Gospel is preached. It is an important part of salvation because it helps us realize the need for change in our lives.
True repentance is more than just feeling sorry for what we've done wrong. It means genuinely transforming our hearts. In Ezekiel 18:31, the Bible tells us to "Rid yourselves of all the offenses you have committed, and get a new heart and a new spirit." This verse shows that repentance is not only about stopping sinful behavior but also about aligning our hearts with God's will. It's a deep and life-changing process that brings us closer to Jesus and strengthens our relationship with Him.
When we think about our lives, it's important to identify areas where we need to repent and change our hearts. We should ask ourselves, how can I align my heart with God's will and live a life that brings me closer to Jesus?
This question helps us examine our thoughts, actions, and beliefs and strive for a closer connection with God. It encourages us to seek His guidance and surrender our lives to His power to transform us.
Remember, true repentance is not just about feeling sorry for our mistakes. It's about embracing the chance to grow and renew ourselves. It's about recognizing our need for God's grace and letting Him shape us into the people He made us to be. Let's humbly approach repentance, seek God's forgiveness, and commit to a life that reflects His love, grace, and truth.

New Beginnings
'In those days John the Baptist came, preaching in the wilderness of Judea and saying, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven has come near.” '
Matthew 3:1-2
Dear Journey Family…
Repentance and New Beginnings
In Matthew 3:1-2, we encounter the story of John the Baptist who says (paraphrasing) "Hey, change your ways, because the kingdom of heaven is right here!" Repentance is a powerful action that involves acknowledging our inability to do things correctly, taking responsibility for our mistakes, turning away from them, and seeking forgiveness. It is a call to change our ways and adopt a new, righteous path.
Repentance is closely connected to new beginnings, giving us an opportunity to leave behind our past errors and embark on a transformative journey. It opens the door to forgiveness, reconciliation, and starting anew. When we genuinely repent, we can experience the joy and freedom that comes with embracing an entirely new way of life when we surrender our will in faith to our Lord Jesus.
As we contemplate the new year, repentance, and new beginnings, let's challenge ourselves to reflect on our own lives. Are there any areas where we need to take responsibility and seek forgiveness? Are there any habits or attitudes that need to be changed? Embracing repentance may not be easy or comfortable, but it is a necessary step towards personal growth and drawing closer to our Lord. Let's embrace the opportunity to start afresh and walk the righteous path He has set before us.

Please keep Steve and the team in your prayers for their safety, and pray that the Lord will work through them to demonstrate His love and compassion to the people of Liberia. It is our hope that many will come to know Christ as their Savior through this mission.

The Wisdom of Proverbs
'The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and instruction. '
Proverbs 1:7
Dear Journey Family…
Welcome to our first newsletter of the year! 2024 already and, as every new year, it is a time for fresh beginnings and new opportunities. It is also a time for reflection and wisdom in the choices we make.
As someone said “there are bad choices - avoid those; there are good choices - consider those; and there is the best choice - aim for that. The difference between bad choices and good choices can be tricky at times but in general we know how to avoid bad choices. The trick is with good choices and the best choice. Especially in our spiritual life. That’s when we need the guidance of the Holy Spirit, the example of Christ and the help of the Father to take us by the hand and walk with us to his will.
Let us seek his wisdom in the year ahead, making decisions that align with his will and bring us closer to what he has planned for us.
May this year be a year of victory and growth for each and every one of us. Stay tuned for more updates and insights in our upcoming newsletters.

Proverbs x 12
Proverbs times twelve. That is our Bible reading challenge this year. We hope you can join us. We are reading the book of Proverbs once a month. 31 chapters in Proverbs. That is one chapter a day. Some months it might be two chapters the last day of the month or so. Then meditate on what you read the rest of the day. Gain wisdom. Repeat the next day.
But if you want to do a completely different type of Bible reading this year, go ahead. Maybe you are still finishing last year’s. That’s ok. You can then jump on this plan whenever you are done. The point is this: spend time in God’s word. It is food for our soul. A lamp onto our feet. Don’t miss out on the blessing of reading God’s word.

The Last Week
Teach us to number our days,
that we may gain a heart of wisdom.
PSALMS 90:12
Dear Journey Family…
As we go through this last week of 2023, we want to take a moment to thank you for all your support, prayers, time and service to this ministry, to the people that are part of this church family and to many others that the Lord has brought our way.
It hasn’t been an easy year, many things have changed and we’ve lost dear people. But God has been faithful and will continue to be faithful.
We believe that even in tough times, the Lord has us here with the same purpose; to love God with all our heart, to love one another with His love and to go and make disciples.
We are praying for wisdom and direction in this new year to continue to do God’s work and expanding his message with those around us.
Again. Thank you. Happy New Year.

If you are interested in joining us and taking up this exciting challenge, simply click HERE. Additionally, if you are up for an even more ambitious challenge of reading through the entire Bible in chronological order, we invite you to click HERE as well.
Our reading journey begins on January 1st, and we cannot wait to start this enriching experience together.

Joy For All The People
But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people.
Luke 2:10
Dear Journey Family…
Pastor Brian said last Sunday:
“At the moment of salvation that comes into our lives, there's incredible joy that takes place in our lives at that very moment. But what about afterwards? What about after one year and five years and ten years and 30 and 40 years? Where does my joy come from?
My joy comes from the same source, the same place. And it isn't even anything different than how I received the joy in the first place…”
Joy was our second theme in our Christmas series. We know the joy of the good news, the joy of salvation, the joy to provide salvation for us that Jesus had in mind as he went to the cross.
With time, we can forsake that joy. But just as His mercies are new every day, we can find that new joy everyday, knowing how much God loves us and how He already prepared a way for us to get to Him. He is preparing a place for us to be with him in eternity.
Circumstances can steal your joy. Claim it back. It’s a gift from God through Jesus.

God Willing.
'…give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. '
1 Thessalonians 5:18
Dear Journey Family…
Pastor Brian said last Sunday:
“How do we determine the will of God? Well, we are lead by the Spirit. The Spirit guides us, it directs us into the very will of God. So many times we’re trying to figure out What God’s will is and yet if I’m being led by the Spirit, I end up just being in his will more than looking to his will…”
As students of the Bible that is one of the questions we often ask. “What is the will of God for my life? “ And many times we at best try to guess, when the Bible is clear about what His will is. We are presented with the answer here in 1Thessalonians 5:18: “Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances”
God likes simple things. And his will is simple. To rejoice, to pray and to give thanks.
So how are you doing in relation to God’s will?
Are you rejoicing, above the circumstances God has you going through right now? Are you praying? Constantly? Are you thankful?

Thank You?
Then I will praise God’s name with singing, and I will honor him with thanksgiving.
Psalm 69:30
Dear Journey Family…
During our last service, Pastor Brian shared the following:
“So many times we get in this trap of honestly not being very thankful in our lives, because at times maybe we believe that we deserve it. Maybe at times we just think ‘we got this’ and we don’t need any help from anybody else.
Maybe you can just say thank you, and appreciate the gift that has been given; as simple as it is, and humble yourself enough to just say thank you”.
We just celebrate the “National Day Of Thankfulness” or simply “Thanksgiving” and it is fresh in our mind to be thankful. Everyday should be a time to be thankful. Everything we have, everything we’ve received is out of grace. Out of God’s grace. The biggest gift we’ve received is the forgiveness of our sins and the promise of eternal life in God’s presence.
It’s an eternal gift. It requires our eternal gratitude.
How is your gratefulness?

Are You Teachable?
The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge,
but fools despise wisdom and instruction.
Proverbs 1:7
Dear Journey Family…
Pastor Brian shared the following.
“God is looking for those who are teachable regarding their actions and their activities. And just because somebody is up in front, just because you find yourself in front of a computer screen or listening to a podcast, just because you put yourself in that position doesn't always mean that you actually are getting it, does it? It doesn't mean just because you're listening that you're teachable in that moment.”
Being teachable is a quality that our own pride can hinder. But it’s a quality that is required for us to be able to grow in our walk with the Lord.
This was a good call to examine ourselves and find out our attitude towards Christ’s teachings and if we are allowing them to have their transformational effect in our life.

Jesus Saves (Not Us)
“…for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes…”
Romans 1:16
Dear Journey Family…
Pastor Brian shared the following.
“As I share with somebody about the gospel, can I actually win them to Jesus? I cannot. Is it the cool words that I might use or the stories that connect? Will that make all the difference? It won’t. If you believe like I believe, Jesus is the only one who makes a difference; that He is the only one who can save.
Nobody who has ever come to faith came to faith through someone else. They truly came to faith through Jesus Christ himself.”
Romans 1:16-17 says:
‘For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek. For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith for faith, as it is written, “The righteous shall live by faith.” '
The best thing I can share with someone, the best message I can share with anyone, the most encouraging words I can share with people is not whatever catchphrase, cliché or motivational sentence I read on a meme. The best word I can give someone is God’s word, starting with the gospel, which is the power of God for salvation as Paul said there in Romans 1.
That’s another reason why I need to keep His word memorized; so I can have it handy whenever the occasion and the Holy Spirit is moving in me to share with someone.
Where is the power of your words coming from?

Left Everything
'…And Jesus said to Simon, “Do not be afraid; from now on you will be catching men.” And when they had brought their boats to land, they left everything and followed him. '
Luke 5:10-11
Dear Journey Family…
Pastor Brian shared the following.
“Because if God is asking you to do something, He who knows everything, who knows you better than you know yourself, recognizes one of two things: A - you do have within you the ability to accomplish that, or B - you don’t have the ability to accomplish that. In either case He still says: “Trust me, follow me, obey me”.
We really don’t have it in us to do what it takes. We have so many examples in the Bible of people that didn’t have it in them: Adam, Moses, Jacob, Ruth, Saul, David, Mary, Peter, Paul. That is key to having a healthy relationship with the almighty Lord of hosts.
We must decrease and He must increase. He can, where we can’t. We just need to know we need Him and allow Him to do His work in our lives.

1 Peter 3:15
but in your hearts honor Christ the Lord as holy, always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and respect
We do not give up; we don’t stop defending the victims of injustice - the most defenseless. People are being deceived and need to find the truth. They need to find Jesus. Things are not going to change until the Savior changes our hearts.
There are people out there still fighting and we can join in prayer and action.
If you want to see what else can be done about this devastating situation, you can read this POST.
Pray.

Times Are Changing - Again
'He got into the boat that belonged to Simon. Jesus asked him to go out a little way from shore. Then he sat down in the boat and taught the people. '
Luke 5:3
Dear Journey Family…
Are you available? That was the point that Pastor Brian shared during our morning service last Sunday. We seem to have our priorities upside down many times. We need to see this world the way Jesus sees it. We need to understand the urgency of our calling, of every believer’s calling to be a witness and share the good news.
We need to be available. The disciples were. Peter was. Are you?

Thanks again!
Vote NO on Issue 1
As much as we don’t like to get into politics, there are times that it is inevitably necessary. This November 7th we’ll get an opportunity to vote in a very important and controversial topic; abortion. As followers of Christ and part of Journey Church we believe life starts at conception and should be protected at all costs. We are not going to get into the details of the issue but if you want to learn more about it from a Christian perspective you can visit End Abortion Ohio and read the information there.

Sharing the Good News
'A group of Epicurean and Stoic thinkers began to argue with him. Some of them asked, “What is this fellow chattering about?” Others said, “He seems to be telling us about gods we’ve never heard of.”
They said this because Paul was preaching the good news about Jesus. He was telling them that Jesus had risen from the dead. '
Acts 17:18
Dear Journey Family…
When did you last share the gospel with someone?
That should be an everyday exercise. You might not be great at first but just like any exercise, the more you do it, the better you get at it. Regardless, whether you are great or not so good at it, our duty is to tell others about the hope we have in Christ. This is our time to do so.
Pray and take the time to tell someone that Jesus loves them and see where that conversation takes you. Don’t wait until they ask you, they might not ever ask you. Take the initiative. It’s scary, but you’re not alone, Jesus is right beside you and his Holy Spirit is within you.
Trust them and share the Good News.

It’s Time
'And he told them a parable: “Look at the fig tree, and all the trees. As soon as they come out in leaf, you see for yourselves and know that the summer is already near. So also, when you see these things taking place, you know that the kingdom of God is near. '
Luke 21:29-31
Dear Journey Family…
Jesus is coming. Soon.
There are things that we can look around and see and confirm it. “Signs” , if you will.
Jesus said to his disciples that no one knew the time of his return to establish his kingdom. He also told them “pay attention to the signs”. With the recent attacks happening in Israel, our attention is heightened as we pray for the safety of God's people, and for protection from the violent advances by HAMAS.
We still don’t know when The Lord will come back but if you pay attention to the signs, things are falling into place.
You might be inclined to think “we’ve been saying this for two thousand years now.” Fair. But, first, we can’t be further away, we are only getting closer. Second, the acceleration in some events predicted in the Bible (we are not going to get into those right now. This is meant to be a short letter), in the last years and decades compared to the last hundreds of years doesn’t compare. We must be getting closer.
So, what! Great news, right?
Here is the question: how are you preparing to meet him. Remember the whole “well done, good and faithful servant”. Are you in that category. With that in mind, what are we supposed to do to prepare.
There is a number of things. One of the most important is bringing others along to the knowledge of Christ. At the very least, let them know about the savior and the good news.
How are we doing in that area? His coming is closer. We have the ulitmate blessing of his message. Did you share it this week?

What If They’ve Never Been To Church?
You might know people who have never been to church. They need to hear the Gospel. God put you there for that reason. How do you go about that?

Don’t miss it.

Evil Days
' Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise but as wise, making the best use of the time, because the days are evil. '
Ephesians 5:15-16
Dear Journey Family…
The days are evil.
In this passage in Ephesians we are encouraged to live according to wisdom. Of course the only place where we can find true wisdom is in God: God’s wisdom.
But what does he want from us? We are saved the moment we trust in Jesus. We worship him and we have a place in his presence. We go to church and we pray. What else can we do? Paul here encourages us to make the best use of time because the days are evil.
What does “make the best use of time” mean? If we were coming from the current cultural point of view, it would mean “whatever you want”, “whatever makes you happy or makes you feel good”
Paul knew better.
Just keep reading the next verses in that passage: '
Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is. And do not get drunk with wine, for that is debauchery, but be filled with the Spirit, addressing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody to the Lord with your heart, giving thanks always and for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, submitting to one another out of reverence for Christ. ' Ephesians 5:17-21
Making the best use of time means to not be fools but understand God’s will. Understand it and do it, of course.
Part of it is that Great Commission Jesus laid on us: “Go, make disciples… teaching to obey everything I have commanded you”. With all the mess we see around us in this world: the violence, the insanity of the decisions our leaders are making regarding abortion, gender, alliances, and many others. We’ve been given the solution to all of these problems in the Gospel.
Things won’t change until people change, and the only thing that will change people is a new heart. The only thing that can renew a heart is the Gospel. Not everyone will accept it, that’s ok; it’s sad, but it’s ok. We all are free to accept him or reject him. Our obligation is to share the Gospel with as many souls as God brings to us. Every day.
That’s making the best use of time; making a difference in someone’s life that will transcend for eternity.
The days are evil. Are you making the best use of the time you’ve been given?

Vision
'…go and make disciples'
Matthew 28:19
Dear Journey Family…
Pastor Brian shared our church vision for the next months and raised important questions: how is our love for Christ? Is it growing? What am I doing with my time, when it comes to my love for Christ?
A good reminder to take a moment and analyze and examine ourselves and our commitment to our Lord. We hope that you can take this challenge and if you need help, you can let us know. We are here to assist and point people to the Savior and the life he has laid out for us.

Stop Clowning Around
'This is why it is said: “Wake up, sleeper, rise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you.” '
Ephesians 5:14
Dear Journey Family…
Last Sunday Carlo brought the Word to our congregation reminding us to take Christian life seriously. But what does that mean? He took us to the letter of the Ephesians, the “manual” of Christian living. We found a lot of encouragement and challenges and a call to “wake up and rise” and let Christ shine on you.
We hope it was encouraging to you and that it was able to give you a boost in your daily walk to put your eyes on him who saved us.
If you would like to watch his message again, click HERE

We remind you that next Saturday, September 23, we’ll have our next Journeymen meeting with the fifth installment of Betterman. We hope you can join us.

This Sunday, Pastor Brian is back from his break and will continue with the race theme, this time on the letter to the Philippians. We hope you can join us.

Gospel Stories
We really don’t want to let this go because we believe it is important.
Did you get to share the gospel this week or last week? How about the week before?
We want to know about it and praise the Lord for his goodness, and your faithfulness in being a messenger of the Gospel.
And if you haven’t, don’t feel bad. Take this as a challenge to be led by the Holy Spirit to share the good news with anyone.
So if you have a recent story where you had an opportunity to share the Gospel, please let us know. We would like to pray and help in any way we can.
Remember, the clock is ticking, God urges us to “go and make disciples”. It starts with the Gospel. Take his good news, find someone, and share with them. You’ll be blessed and you’ll be a blessing:
'And how can anyone preach unless they are sent? As it is written: “How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!” ' Romans 10:15

Potluck
'They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. '
Acts 2:42
Dear Journey Family…
How great it is to celebrate our Lord Jesus Christ in communion? And also remember that one day we will be enjoying eating together in his presence. We shared a wonderful meal and great fellowship.
Thanks for all the yummy things everyone brought. We hope this was an encouragement to you and your family as we spent that time as a big church family.
Are You Serious…?
We hope you can join us this Sunday morning for our Church Service. Pastor Carlo, our children’s Pastor, will be bringing God’s word to us in a message titled “Are You Serious…?”. This also encourages others to do the same and then we are able to “spur one another on toward love and good deeds”
We are running out of time and God has called us to take his good news to those who haven’t heard. Don’t miss out on a great opportunity for us all together to give glory to God for what He is doing through you.
We are planting seeds. The Lord will bring about the growth.

Labor Day Communion
'For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until he comes. '
1 Corinthians 11:26
Dear Journey Family…
We are preparing to celebrate the Lord’s Supper this Sunday.
The Lord’s Supper (or communion) is a time when believers in Christ remember the last meal he had with his disciples before being arrested, sentenced and crucified for the redemption of our sins.
It is also a time for reflection. Reflection about ourselves, our lives and our relationship with the Lord. We are encouraged to examine ourselves before participating in the sharing of the bread and the cup, and make sure we are not doing it in an unworthy manner (1Corinthians 11:27-30).
We hope you can join us this Sunday to celebrate together but if you can’t, you can join us online HERE
And if you would like to watch last week’s sermon and Pastor Justin’s words at the end of the service, you can do that by clicking on this LINK.
Labor Day Fellowship Potluck
The celebration continues after the morning service as we come together to share lunch in our Labor Day Potluck. Please come and and enjoy with us; bring a dish to share, but even if you don’t bring a dish, there will be plenty for everyone!
And bring friends!

Press On

Philippians 3:14
Dear Journey Family…
Where are you putting your eyes, where is your aim, what is your goal? Where my eyes are, that is where my focus, my effort, my energy, time and resources will be. That’s why it is important to evaluate ourselves and see if we are reaching for that prize heavenward that Jesus makes available to us.
Take time today to look inward and see if you have Jesus as your priority. If not, don’t just say, “oh well”.
We are here to help you, we are here to help one another and spur one another to godliness and good works.
It’s worth it.

Harringtons Send Off
This Sunday we’ll be praying for and thanking Justin, Sarah and their kids. We appreciate their dedication, love and service to Journey Church throughout all these years, as they prepare to follow God’s path in the next chapter of their life.
We’ll have a time of refreshments after the service. We are preparing a “send-off basket” with cards and presents for them as a thank you gift. If you want to contribute to this basket, please bring your card, gift card or present this Sunday before the service. If you can’t make it but still want to participate, please let us know, email us here: EMAIL and we’ll arrange a way to get your items.
Please pray for them as they follow the Lord and seek his wisdom. They leave a big footprint at Journey and in many of our lives.
Labor Day Communion and Fellowship
Sunday, September 3rd, we’ll celebrate communion together during the service and we’ll have lunch and a time of fellowship. Please plan on bringing a dish to share during the potluck.
It’s a great way to receive fall and cooler days!

All In Context
'Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. '
Psalm 23:4
Dear Journey Family…
Does God have plans to prosper us and not to harm us? -of course! But not in the way we have been “trained” to believe in many cases. It is not about us at all.
In that quest to find words in the Bible that bring us comfort in this life we many times go around believing things that the Bible doesn’t say.
That is the case of Jeremiah 29:11. This is one of the quintessential examples of the “out of context syndrome”. If you want to know why we use this verse out of context, it might behoove you Pastor Brian’s message from last Sunday. This is the last message in the series "Verses Gone Rogue”.

More Missions
Continuing with the overseas missions theme, we welcome missionaries Tom and Nancy Wolf, this Sunday to our morning service. They are missionaries with ABWE International serving in the Middle East & South Asia.
Journey has been part of their support team for several years now, and we are excited to hear their report and what the Lord is doing through them in that part of the world.
Please join us in prayer for them and if you want to learn more about ABWE you can go to their website HERE
