Evil Days
' Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise but as wise, making the best use of the time, because the days are evil. '
Ephesians 5:15-16
Dear Journey Family…
The days are evil.
In this passage in Ephesians we are encouraged to live according to wisdom. Of course the only place where we can find true wisdom is in God: God’s wisdom.
But what does he want from us? We are saved the moment we trust in Jesus. We worship him and we have a place in his presence. We go to church and we pray. What else can we do? Paul here encourages us to make the best use of time because the days are evil.
What does “make the best use of time” mean? If we were coming from the current cultural point of view, it would mean “whatever you want”, “whatever makes you happy or makes you feel good”
Paul knew better.
Just keep reading the next verses in that passage: '
Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is. And do not get drunk with wine, for that is debauchery, but be filled with the Spirit, addressing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody to the Lord with your heart, giving thanks always and for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, submitting to one another out of reverence for Christ. ' Ephesians 5:17-21
Making the best use of time means to not be fools but understand God’s will. Understand it and do it, of course.
Part of it is that Great Commission Jesus laid on us: “Go, make disciples… teaching to obey everything I have commanded you”. With all the mess we see around us in this world: the violence, the insanity of the decisions our leaders are making regarding abortion, gender, alliances, and many others. We’ve been given the solution to all of these problems in the Gospel.
Things won’t change until people change, and the only thing that will change people is a new heart. The only thing that can renew a heart is the Gospel. Not everyone will accept it, that’s ok; it’s sad, but it’s ok. We all are free to accept him or reject him. Our obligation is to share the Gospel with as many souls as God brings to us. Every day.
That’s making the best use of time; making a difference in someone’s life that will transcend for eternity.
The days are evil. Are you making the best use of the time you’ve been given?

Volunteer Opportunities
Serving our congregation and serving our community has always been at the top of our list at Journey. After all that’s what we are commanded to do, to serve one another in love (Galatians 5:13)
In the next weeks we have some opportunities to get involved and serve one another and serve the community:
Outreach Halloween Parties:
October 31st evening. Two locations in Plain City: The Moran’s (Stan and Crystal) and The Langford’s (Tyler and Crystal). Two groups from Journey will be passing out candy and starting conversations with families that could lead to sharing the Gospel or to making contacts for future follow up, invitations to church, etc. Sign up starts this Sunday to form the two groups.
If you can’t go to either party, you can still participate by donating candy. If you would like to help with that, please let us know or bring it to the church on Sunday.
Christmas Choir:
Felix Weber our Worship Leader is preparing for this Christmas Season and is planning on putting together a Choir. If you are interested, please talk to him on Sunday or email him HERE
Kids Ministry, Greeters and Coffee team:
Would you like to teach our Journey Kids? This is such a wonderful opportunity to bless the youngest in our church at the same time you are being blessed by them and by the lessons you will be teaching. Contact Carlo HERE
You can be the first joyful face our congregation gets to see every Sunday morning. Easy work but very important nonetheless. First impressions are gold. If this is the type of ministry you are lead to join, email HERE
Women’s Bible Study
Remember that the women’s ministry Bible study on Sundays is still going on . The study is “Heart of God” by Francis Chan. It is a 5 week study every Sunday at 6:30pm.
If you are interested in attending you can let us know by emailing us HERE.
It is not necessary to sign up, but it would be appreciated so we can know who will be attending.
Betterman Session 7
Gentlemen, just a friendly reminder about the upcoming Journeymen meeting in the Betterman series. We will be diving into the 7th session titled "A Real Man Courageously Follows God's Word."
The meeting will take place on Saturday, October 21st at our usual time of 8am.
We encourage you to bring along a friend and join us for this meaningful discussion.
Who’s your +1 ?
Your “Plus One” is aimed at reminding us to not miss an opportunity to have Gospel conversations with people during the week and invite them to church.
Who’s your Plus One this week?
That’s all we have for now - it’s your turn to let us know what your thoughts are.
If you have anything that we can help with in prayer, please let us know.
We’d love to pray with you and for you.
