To Give Or Not To Give?

'Honor the Lord with your wealth and with the firstfruits of all your produce; then your barns will be filled with plenty, and your vats will be bursting with wine. '

Proverbs 3:9-10

Dear Journey Family…

The third lie in the Sunday morning series “The Lies We Believe”: You can’t out give God.

Of course you can’t!

But the idea is that the more you give to God the more he will give back to you, and supposedly that is how God operates.

Is that true?

Again, the short answer is: no.

Pastor Brian showed us what the Bible teaches about giving and the purpose of it, and here’s a summary:

It teaches reverence - Deuteronomy 14 v22-23

It proves repentance - Malachi 3 v6-12

Symbolizes redemption - Exodus 13 v11-15

Recognizes our debt - Deuteronomy 12 v10-11

Reveals Faith - Proverbs 3 v9-10

Giving is a topic that has been problematic in many churches: prosperity gospel, pastors that use the church as their own bank, bad stewardship in the church and church goers mistrust the church leadership and are afraid to give or flat out stop giving. Does that mean we should stop giving? God still wants us to offer our best. And the church should be open, transparent and accountable to the congregation and to anyone that requests an account of what is being done with the offering.

So we hope this message was an encouragement to you in the area of giving, if you have questions, please reach out!

You can watch Brian’s message here:

And if you would like to support Journey Church’s ministry you can do it here:

Blood Drive

The date is Monday, August 29 starting at 1pm at Journey’s Worship Center (8500 Memorial Dr. Plain City)

And they are already taking appointments, so if you are interested in donating blood or know someone who would like to do that, just click on the button below

Baptisms

'While they were traveling down the road, they came to some water. The official said, “Look, here is water! What is stopping me from being baptized?” ' Acts 8:36

Sunday, August 21 during our morning service, a few of our brothers and sisters will be taking this important step in the life and testimony of a follower of Christ. Please be in prayer for those getting baptized and for the ones that will be added to the list.

Have you been baptized? Do you know someone who is interested in getting baptized? Please let us know!

The Devil Made Me Do It

This is part 4 of our series: “The Lies We Believe” and the lie is one that we all might have said at some point or if not at least thought about it. But is this really true? Can the devil make me do what I shouldn’t?

Join us this Sunday as Pastor Carlo takes us to the Bible and what it says about this topic.

10am. Hope to see you there but if not, you can always watch it online:

And that’s all we have for now.

Now it’s your turn to let us know what your thoughts are.

What things have you believed in your life that turned out to be lies? How did you deal with them?

Please let us know. We’d love to pray for you.

Email us to info@journeychurchcolumbus.org.

And until next time, thanks for reading!
