God Helps Those Who Can't Help Themselves

God, the Master, The Holy of Israel,

has this solemn counsel:

“Your salvation requires you to turn back to me

and stop your silly efforts to save yourselves.

Your strength will come from settling down

in complete dependence on me—

The very thing

you’ve been unwilling to do.

Isaiah 30:15

(The Message)

Dear Journey Family…

We started our new summer series “The Lies We Believe” this last Sunday and Pastor Brian kicked us off with a common idea floating around among many Christians “God helps those who help themselves”. As Pastor Brian showed us through Scripture, this is not only incorrect, it is directly contrary to what the Bible teaches.

Where is God’s grace there?

That is the whole point of our need for the Christ to come and save us. We can’t help ourselves, our attempts can’t even get close to what God’s perfect character requires, what it required was for Jesus to come and help us, and save us, and restore us back to his Father.

Have you ever felt that? That you need to do something in order to receive God’s favor? The enemy is very interested in that deception and making us believe it. We will never be enough in our own strength, that is why we are ever so thankful for Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross.

Through him, we can then be made perfect.

And that’s that.

There is still room!

Everyone is getting ready and excited for our paint session on Saturday.

There is still room and time if you haven’t signed up.

What are we going to paint, you might ask. Here is a hint: Psalm 42

(Go read it…!)

Remember, the date is Saturday July 23rd at 3pm.

Sign up now, just click on the button below, we hope to see you there!

Baptisms

The date is Aug 21st.

Are you ready to take this important step in the life of a disciple of Christ? Do you know what baptism is? Do you know what baptism is not? Are you interested in learning more? Do you know someone who God might be working in his/her heart and leading them to make the decision to go under water to declare their faith?

Let us know!

Workshop Rescheduled

This workshop set for Saturday, July 23 has been rescheduled. We don’t have the new date yet, but we’ll make that information known as soon as we get it.

Part 2

This Sunday we welcome Pastor Justin to the platform as he shares with us what God has been guiding him to speak in our second installment of the series “The Lies We Believe” and we see what the Bible says about this idea that “God Doesn't Give You More Than You Can Handle”

Also here are the next sermons coming up in July and August:

  • July 31: Pastor Brian - “You Can't Out-Give God”

  • Aug 7: Pastor Carlo - “The Devil Made Me Do It”

  • Aug 14: Pastor Nicholas Kallis - “God Only Wills Positive Things For Me In Life”

Remember to invite your friends, or feel free to send them the link to watch it online if they can’t come in person:

And that’s all we have for now.

Now it’s your turn to let us know what your thoughts are.

When you do what’s right, is it out of love for God or because that is what you are supposed to do?

Have you even stopped to think about it?

The devil is in the details…

Please let us know. We’d love to pray for you.

Please email us to info@journeychurchcolumbus.org.

And until next time, thanks for reading.
