Discover, Dare, Dream
The Vision of Journey Church is 3 Dimensional: Discover, Dare and Dream.
This 3D vision is rooted in Jesus’ two “great” teachings, the “Great Commandment” and the “Great Commission”.
Discover Life in Christ stems from the first half of the Great Commandment, in which Jesus calls us to “love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.” (Matthew 22:37)
Dare to Live in Community grows out of the second half of the Great Commandment in which Jesus calls us to “love your neighbor as yourself.”
Dream of Changing the World is an outgrowth of the Great Commandment, in which Jesus tells His disciples to “go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.” (Matthew 28:19-20)
Journey church began in the summer of 2007 with a few couples meeting for encouragement and prayer. Others began meeting with us, and the group grew. We began to study the book of Acts together, and also shared food together (adding food to the equation brought more growth!). In Acts, we discovered together that the church is more than a building and programs, but is first and foremost people, people who are “not there yet”. People who are on a journey towards becoming more like Christ. (Romans 8:29)We had a “preview” Christmas service on December 8, and officially began meeting together on a weekly basis at the Dublin Recreational Center on January 6th.
Our (Discipleship) Strategy
We define discipleship as a journey, a journey that takes place within relationships. Relationships are lived for the purpose of bringing one another to spiritual maturity. Ephesians 4:14 Jesus used three relationship environments to bring His disciples to spiritual maturity, crowds, committed (disciples), and core (Peter, James and John). Journey Church seeks to recreate those environments by offering gathered teaching for the crowds, house churches for the committed and Spiritual Friendships for the core.
Gathered Teaching (crowds) Our gathered teaching environment is a time for regional teaching and gathered worship. It is an environment where everyone can be taught together and encouraged and where guests can be introduced to the Journey.
House Churches (Committed) House churches are a gathering for 6 to 60 people usually from the same or nearby neighborhoods who meet together to “be” the church. Just like family they meet together to share meals, worship, serve and grow together. Acts 2:41, 42 Also just like family, they are people of all different ages and stages on their spiritual journey.
Spiritual Friends (Core) Spiritual Friends are the smallest gathering of people. They are usually groups of three same gender people who challenge one another to live an authentic spiritual life. They meet regularly for personal coaching and encouragement similar to how Jesus met with Peter, James and John.
What to Expect at our Gathered Teaching
Our gatherings are very relaxed and casual. You are welcome to come as you are, enjoy a cup of coffee and ease your way into the worship and teaching of the day.
